information on what to wear during your photo session

WHAT TO WEAR

What you wear may be one of the most important details of your session!

I recommend planning your outfits out completely at least 1 week prior to your session. I do offer a small client closet to my clients so please don't hesitate to reach out if you would like to see the clothing offered.  As always, I am here for you if you have any questions, or would like to send me photos to help you decide. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND YOUR COLOR CHOICES DRASTICALLY EFFECT THE OVERALL LOOK OF YOUR GALLERY.

Here are a few general rules to help you through the process.

  • Choose a color palate of 3-4 colors. You want your outfits to be cohesive without being "matchy matchy". Coordinate and compliment.

  • Colors that photograph the best are burnt orange, mustard yellow, blues, dark greens, copper, brown and neutrals like cream, tan, black, brown, & white.

  • Avoid overly bright colors, like really hot pink, lime green or bright neon yellow, etc. Neons are a no-no. They can create a very unflattering color cast on your skin.

  • Layers are always a good idea. In the fall/winter, a button down under a sweater for dad, a solid tee under a button down for brother. A skirt with leggings for sister and a sweater with jewelry or a hat that can be taken on and off are always a good options.

  • Steer clear of any large graphics, or images that will take away focus on the subject. Opt for a tee with a few buttons vs a tee shirt with a graphic. You want to choose timeless patterns and solids for a more finished, polished look.

  • Don't forget to add in patterns, stripes, texture and layers. Try to get a good combination with a few of these things.

  • Details matter- For those close up shots, think about your nails being groomed and noses wiped.

  • Don't let your hard work be for nothing, finish out your looks with the right shoes.

A tip: Choose mom's outfit first and then build from there. Most importantly, be comfortable and confident. These photos are for you! I am here for you, feel free to reach out at any time and ask questions if you are having trouble piecing it together.

Another Tip: Have mom and daughter/son have one main color in common- perhaps slightly different shades. For example, if mom wears a red dress, your daughter can wear a red scarf or your son can wear a red beanie or red sneakers!
